Oh I am soooo excited for you to try this ice cream trick!
You can make this ice cream in 5 minutes with ingredients you have on hand.
You can make this ice cream to suit your desires - no fat, low fat, full fat, as well as your desires for the amount and type of sweetness, and adjusting the flavoring in general.
The ice cream on the right is Coconut & Banana, low fat, low sugar and only took 5 minutes to make. Fun, Delicious, and Easy Peasy - my kind of recipe!!
Ice Cream Ingredients:
1. 1 cup of a liquid of your choice - I prefer Unsweetened Almond Milk or Low Fat Coconut Milk, but you can also use any percentage of dairy milk. The more fat, as in using Half & Half, will produce the most rich ice cream, but this is to be made according to your desires!
2. Sweetener of your choice - I prefer Stevia, a natural sweetener with zero calories, but you can use the sweetener of your choice. The amount will depend on your desires. I use 3 - 4 drops of the liquid stevia, and with sugar you would use 1/4 - 1 tsp..
3. Flavoring - The possibilities are up to you! Just add a 1/4 tsp. of vanilla flavoring for the most basic recipe. You could add other extracts like: lemon, strawberry, coconut, peppermint. You could add fruit like: banana, strawberry, pineapple, mango. You could even add toppings like: chocolate chips, unsweetened cocoa powder, or graham crackers.
And for a meal replacement idea, you could even add protein powder to your mix.
Here are some concoctions:
You will also need:
1. A large Ziploc bag and a smaller ziploc bag (If not using a hefty brand name, be sure to double bag the containers, so they do not burst.)
2. Salt - Ice Cream or Rock Salt is best, then Kosher Salt, and table salt can be used if that is all you have on hand. If you fall in love with the recipe, just keep some Rock Salt on hand, a pretty easy purchase at most grocery stores.
To make the ice cream:
1. Mix the cup of liquid, sweetener, and flavoring in the small ziploc bag.
2. Fill the large Ziploc bag about 1/2 full with ice and pour 1/2 cup salt over the ice, and shake to coat the ice with salt.
3. Put the smaller bag in the larger bag, zip tightly, and shake for 5 minutes.
It is a good idea to use oven mitts or a towel around the bag of ice to keep your hands from getting too cold. It is also more fun if you put on some music you enjoy while you are shaking!
4. Open the bag, put in a bowl and enjoy!
