Day 24 - Praying over our Marriages

Holy Father,

In Your infinite wisdom, You declared that it is not good that man should be alone.  And so in Your infinite love, You made a helper to walk along side him and You said that because the woman was taken from the man, he should therefore leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh.  (Genesis 2:18-25)  Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.  (Mark 10:9)  May we cherish the gift of being one in marriage.  Help us to make this our goal.

We pray for the marriages within our family - for those that already exist and for those to come in the future.  Make them to be established in Your love.  (1 Corinthians 13)  Grant us respect and admiration for one another so that we may have a friend with whom to laugh and have fun, a confidante with whom to share our intimate dreams and stories, and a helpmate with whom we share life's difficulties.  Teach us to love one another deeply because love covers a multitude of sins.  (1 Peter 4:8)

We ask that our marriages be honored by all, and that the marriage bed be kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.  (Hebrews 13:4)  But may we not only stay far away from adultery on the physical level, may we also stay far away from adultery within our hearts and our minds.  May we not even look lustfully at others.  (Matthew 5:27-30)

May the husbands in our family love their wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her; and may the wives submit to their husbands as to the Lord.  (Ephesians 5:22-33)  We ask that those not yet married would be joined together in marriage with other Christians.  May they be drawn to those who call You God.  (2 Corinthians 6:14-18)  May they seek You in finding the perfect spouse at the perfect time for their lives and grant them peace and purity in the waiting.  (Jeremiah 29:11-14)
