Day 5 - Praying For Compassionate & Loving Hearts

Loving Father,

Thank You for Your compassion towards us.  We pray that we would follow Your example by being compassionate and gracious to others, slow to anger and abounding in love.  (Psalm 103:8)  We pray that we would be people who are kind, humble, gentle and patient.  (Colossians 3:12)  Teach us to care for others as You would care for them, to love our neighbors as ourselves.  (Romans 13:9)  May we not merely say we will love others, but may we actually love others with our actions and in truth.  (1 John 3:18)

Thank You that when we are merciful to others You have promised that we too will receive Your mercy.  (Matthew 5:7)  Help us to continually be forgiving others, just as You continually forgive us.  (Matthew 18:21-35)  Fill us with Your Spirit so that we may love our enemies, do good to those who persecute us, bless those who curse us and pray for those who mistreat us.  It is simply impossible for us to do on our own, but we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us and You have promised us great rewards for doing so.  (Luke 6:27-36 / Matthew 5:43-48)

Your Word says that as water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man.  May our hearts be a reflection of You so that others may desire to draw near.  (Proverbs 27:19)  Fill us with Your Spirit, that our hearts might bear the fruit of Your love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  (Galatians 5:22,23)  May our love be like that of Jesus:  patient, kind, not envying, not arrogant, not rude, not seeking its own, not easily angered, not keeping records of wrong.  (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)

Change our hearts so that we are not constantly consumed with just our own interests being met, but may we also look to the interests of others.  (Philippians 2:4)  Help us to make it our goal to build each other up  in love.  (Ephesians 4:15,16)
