Day 9 - Praying Over Our Spiritual Gifts

Great and Giving God,

We thank You for the special way You have created each one of us, that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, that it was You who knit us together in our mother's womb.  (Psalm 139:13,14)  Included in the way You created us were the spiritual gifts You also gave.  Show us how our gifts differ from the gifts You have given to others, and let us be generous, diligent and cheerful in using them.  (Romans 12:6-8)

It was You who made some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists and some to be pastors and teachers so that the body of Christ may be built up in love.  (Ephesians 4:11-16)  Regardless of our gift, show us where we fit into Your divine arrangement, so that we may be a part of building Your kingdom.  May we be confident that You have endowed us with all we need to serve and remove all obstacles and excuses that keep us from using our spiritual gifts.  (Hebrews 13:20,21)

Cause us to be diligent in developing our gifts and talents so that we will become skilled in our work and serve before kings.  (Proverbs 22:29)  Give us a sense of destiny that before we were even born, You knew us and had set us apart and appointed us with gifts and talents for Your glory.  (Jeremiah 1:5)

May we not only grow in our own gifts, but may we also learn to appreciate the gifts of others in the body of Christ.  May we be thankful for those who have gifts we do not have and encourage them to serve in ways that we are not able.  Help us to realize that You have made us to be one, but that You have also made us to be different and that You have distributed the gifts as You wanted them to be.  (1 Corinthians 12:12-31)

May we use our gifts to serve others and may we do so without complaining.  (1 Peter 4:9-11)  May we always remember that no matter how well we use our gifts, if they are not used in love, they are to no avail.  (1 Corinthians 13)
