Courage To Take The First Step

Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged for the Lord your God, will be with you wherever you go."  Joshua 1:9

Is it hard for you take the first step?

Do you stand at the base of a new endeavor and say, "It will be too hard."  "I am not sure if I can."  " I am just too tired."  Or maybe, "I do not even know how."

I must confess this has been my struggle with this site!  For months, I have wanted to start this site, but it has seemed so overwhelming - hyperlinks, html, code, subscriptions, and on and on, the unknown hurdles have come.  On more than one occasion, I have felt like throwing in the towel, and quite frankly finding an easier way to spend my free time!

"No one will miss this is if I do not ever set it up," was my reasoning as I sat looking at my computer screen struggling to take the first step.  "What does it even matter?"

But bit by bit, as I have taken the the tiniest of steps, I have learned two important lessons that have helped in taking that difficult, frightening, unknown, first step, that possibly might help you as well in something you are trying to achieve.

Lesson 1:  Keep your head down focusing on only one step at a time.  Focus on the first step, however big it may be.  Don't look up at the huge amount of steps that lay ahead, just focus on the first.

Lesson 2:  Keep in mind the theory of momentum.  Just like stepping on to an elliptical, you take the first step, and movement begins to occur.  Movement creates more movement, all the while, the steps become increasingly easier to take.  As you begin to move with momentum, you are better able to adjust "the settings" pushing yourself harder as you start to catch your stride (or maybe even slowing down a bit).

It is my belief that My Sunshine Room will have value for many, and though it may not be perfect on its first day, it will continue to get better.  It is my belief that though it may not reach and bless all audiences, that it will reach and bless some, and for that I needed to take this first step!

And that is my encouragement for you today, in whatever it is that you are trying to do, right now, that is hard and causing you to stand still, drumming up scary scenarios before you.  Take the first step.  Don't try to make your endeavor perfect, at least not at the beginning.

Just take a step, any step.  Your efforts will be worth it, I promise.

I just did, and I will be praying for you as well!
